The McHenry Outdoor

1510 Chapel Hill Road
McHenry, IL 60050

The nostalgic McHenry Outdoor Theater continues to make memories for thousands of families in the McHenry County Area. With numerous years of experience, we at Golden Age Cinemas strive to recreate the entertaining, innocent days of the 1950's. Put the kids in their pajamas, get in the car, and come out to see two movies for less than the price of one. Nothing is more American than spending a summer night under the stars watching a big Hollywood movie.

Upcoming Events at the McHenry Outdoor

The McHenry Outdoor Theater has a lot in store this Fall!

Jay & Silent Bob Get Old – 11/1/20

**Rules, Regulations, Hints, and Tips throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic (UPDATED FOR PHASE 4)**

Arrive early to ensure a parking spot. Our maximum capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic will only be 400 vehicles as opposed to the regular 750 vehicles. Our Box Office opens no later than 6:30 PM during business days. However, once the lines at the entrance reach the road, we must open earlier in an effort to eliminate traffic congestion.

You may lay in the bed of your truck or in the back of a van. You may also sit in front of your vehicle. However, if you must get up and move 6’ beyond your vehicle, you must wear a face mask.

You can purchase admission at our Box Office, however, ticket stubs will NOT be returned at Box Office in an effort to restrict any possibility of cross-contamination.

All employees have been educated and trained on the need for personal sanitation and hygiene as well as the sanitation of our facility. All employees must wash their hands at least every 15-20 minutes and must wear/change gloves and facemasks frequently.

Only one vehicle will be allowed to park between Two speaker poles. This will allow for a social distancing space of approximately 12’ to 16’.

We recommend bringing your own radio from home if you wish not to use your vehicle’s radio. We currently rent radios for $5.00 and a photo ID and our speakers on the poles will now be turned on.

Our bathrooms in the concession stand will be open. There will be plenty of hand soap and sanitizer on hand. We have a strict and consistent sanitation process for all bathrooms.

Our concession stand is open to the public. Please adhere to the social distancing guidelines taped to the floor and please wear your mask.

There will be 2 exterior hand washing stations located near the concession stand/restrooms, if needed.

We are asking that, wherever possible, you please police yourselves when it comes to parking. We are not enforcing the traditional parking rules of large vehicles parking next to a red colored pole or small vehicles parking next to a silver colored pole. It is impossible for us to enforce considering that all vehicles will be parked in the middle of 2 speaker poles and not beside one. If you cannot see, there will be plenty of spots to move to considering that we are only utilizing less than half of our property by only allowing 400 vehicles admittance as opposed to the usual 750 vehicles.

Things to know!

Car consideration:

At Golden Age Cinemas, McHenry Outdoor Theater, we do our best to ensure that everyone's night is as fun and enjoyable as possible. In order to ensure that all cars have an adequate view of the screen we do have a few parking rules.
RED POLES: Vehicles larger than 67" will be required to park next to a red colored pole. Red poles are located near the outside, front, and back.
SILVER POLES: Vehicles shorter than 67" will be required to park next to a silver colored pole. Silver poles are located in the center of the lot.
HATCHES: Any vehicle hatch that is blocking the view of those behind them may be asked to be lowered or shut.

Concession stand:

Here at Golden Age Cinemas McHenry Outdoor Theater, we pride ourselves on our concession stand. Our concession stand is what funds everything from the screen tower, to the nostalgic drive-in speakers, to the projector. We offer many great food items from snacks to full meals:

How to listen:

What time should we arrive?

Box Office will open no later than 6:30 PM. However, once the lines at the entrance reach the road, we must open earlier in an effort to eliminate traffic congestion. At our theater we have an expanse of grass that is great for playing with the kids before the show gets started.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are allowed as long as they are leashed and cleaned up after.

What if I want to leave and come back?

Upon leaving our theater grounds you must pay to reenter.

What if we are meeting someone who arrives later in the evening? Can we save a spot?

All parking at the McHenry Outdoor Theater is first come first serve. Any objects blocking or saving spaces may be asked to move. We recommend arriving together whenever possible.

Do you accept debit or credit cards?

We accept debit and credit cards at our box office and in our concession stand.

What time does the movie start?

Because our screen is located outdoors, we must wait until it is completely dark before the movie may begin. Movie start times will vary throughout the summer depending of the time of sundown.

What if it rains?

We will always play through our movies rain or shine! We cannot issue rain checks or refunds.

Is grilling allowed?

No sort of grilling is allowed at the McHenry Outdoor. That includes propane, charcoal, or electrical grills.

What's playing next week? How often do you change your movies?

We strive to always offer one new release movie that will run for a minimum of two weeks. The second feature will usually be changed every weekend. Because we only have one screen, we usually will not know what movies will play until the preceding Monday.
