In order to provide the best movie watching experience possible, we provide multiple ways to listen to the movie. We offer radio checkouts with a valid photo ID for $5.
We have a limited amount, so while supplies last! If you don’t want to rent a radio or use your car, bring a portable stereo or radio to use and tune into 89.9FM!

At Golden Age Cinemas, McHenry Outdoor Theater, we do our best to ensure that everyone’s night is as fun and enjoyable as possible. In order to ensure that all cars have an adequate view of the screen we do have a few parking rules.
GOLD POLES: Premier parking for any size vehicle in the front 2 rows for ONLY $5 per vehicle.
RED POLES: Vehicles larger than 67″ will be required to park next to a red colored pole. Red poles are located near the outside, front, and back.
SILVER POLES: Vehicles shorter than 67″ will be required to park next to a silver colored pole. Silver poles are located in the center of the lot.
HATCHES: Any vehicle hatch that is blocking the view of those behind them may be asked to be lowered or shut.!

The nostalgic McHenry Outdoor Theater continues to make memories for thousands of families in the McHenry County Area.
With numerous years of experience, we at Golden Age Cinemas strive to recreate the entertaining, innocent days of the 1950’s. Put the kids in their pajamas, get in the car, and come out to see two movies for less than the price of one. Nothing is more American than spending a summer night under the stars watching a big Hollywood movie.

Went here for the first time last night and it was great! The $15 carload deal on Tuesdays is a great deal. We used to go to Cascade and were sad that they closed down but I have to say, that this theatre is much better! The screen was bright and clear and the sound was perfect through a radio. The snacks were fresh, slightly over- priced but still much cheaper than a regular theatre. I never miss the dancing soda's and flipping hot "dogs" during intermission. I am so glad this place exists! It is almost an hour and a half ride for us but it is definitely worth it for a double feature. Don't forget to bring mosquito coils or you can buy bug spray at the concession stand. Be prepared to stay late if watching both movies! We were there until after 1 am. LOVE THIS PLACE!
This theater is wonderful. I love it and go every chance I get. The service is great, popcorn is tasty, movies look fantastic on the giant screen. I absolutely love that I get to control my own volume using my car radio, and kick back in the comfort of my own space. They are taking safety very seriously during this time and it's appreciated! I definitely recommend a night out here to anyone who enjoys classic movies and the freedom to hang out in your car. This was a fun experience, especially with kids!

Box Office will open no later than 6:30 PM. However, once the lines at the entrance reach the road, we must open earlier in an effort to eliminate traffic congestion. At our theater we have an expanse of grass that is great for playing with the kids before the show gets started.
Dogs are allowed as long as they are leashed and cleaned up after.
Upon leaving our theater grounds you must pay to reenter.
Because our screen is located outdoors, we must wait until it is completely dark before the movie may begin. Movie start times will vary throughout the summer depending of the time of sundown.
All parking at the McHenry Outdoor Theater is first come first serve. Any objects blocking or saving spaces may be asked to move. We recommend arriving together whenever possible.
We strive to always offer one new release movie that will run for a minimum of two weeks. The second feature will usually be changed every weekend. Because we only have one screen, we usually will not know what movies will play until the preceding Monday.
We accept debit and credit cards at our box office and in our concession stand.
We will always play through our movies rain or shine! We cannot issue rain checks or refunds.
No sort of grilling is allowed at the McHenry Outdoor. That includes propane, charcoal, or electrical grills.
